Live chat!!

Hello!! I'm excited to be here and hope that several of you stop by. I will be here live until about 10 pm. We will "chat" through the comments. If you have something to add, just leave a comment and then I will comment back immediately. It's easy and fun!

I also wanted to let you know that if you signed up for the Sweet and Sinister swap, I will be assigning partners in the next week.

We can chat about anything you'd like. If you have any questions about the Sweet and Sinister swap or this months theme of multi-colors. What's been your favorite part of summer? What do you most look forward to for autumn? What crafts are you working on (or hope to)?

Let's chat!

  5. I think it's at about 75. I get several new people each day. I think it will probably be full by the end of the week.

I just found the Halloween special issue put out by Better Homes and Gardens at the grocery store yesterday.

Also got a copy of the new Country Living Halloween book from the publisher.

Haven't seen much yet in the way of new ideas yet this year.

  6. I'm heading to an estate sale tomorrow that says "haunting amount of Halloween items" in their ad. We'll see what that means...

  7. The Better Homes issue was not at Barnes and Noble the other day.. I did not see a Country LIving either as i was looking.. but it is early yet.. too bad there aren't really any new ideas... there must be something that we haven't thought of yet... there are so many creative people these days!

It's their best of. It's good if you haven't clipped their pictures for the last 5 years and already compiled them in binders:) lol

  10. ROFLOL... well, i know you have done that!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Thanks! We'll see about the sale. The photos don't have any pictures of Halloween items, but it sounds like there must be a LOT! Have no idea if they'll be old or not. I've accumulated some neat old Halloween collectibles in the last year. I'm excited to put them out. Must resist until September!

Not sure if I have a theme yet. To be determined:)

  12. That book looks interesting... I will have to check it out when i find one... although I am pretty sure i have most of the info from those past issues... not sure if i have them all however... so there may be some new things for me.

  13. There are a LOT of recipes in it. I know you like that kind of thing:)

I think we're the only two here tonight. So we can talk about Halloween all we want!! No party for you this year??

    ReplyDelete
  14. I was looking back through last year's swap pics and came across yours... you and a few others had beautiful packages... I love when you take the time to make the swap item wrapping to be as special as the item.. it was boo-tiful!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm hoping for a party, but it's up in the air.. what about you?? Will there be a witches brew or a sweet and sinister party?? will there be an online party??

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'll have to look through the pics. I don't even remember what I posted!

It is fun in swaps to personalize every bit:)

    ReplyDelete
  17. An online party would be really fun!!!

I will host a witch's brew with the same group that I do each year. Also an autumn harvest party with another group of ladies. Not sure about a kids party or not.

  18. Hello Kari! I always hang on to the Halloween Issues of my fav mag. Seems it is time to drag them out of the basket and see what I can find.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I have been on the lookout for black and white things... i'm scratching my head about the found item though.. still on the hunt for that... we have a small antique shop nearby, but they don't have that many great things really.. guess it depends on what you are looking for... i found a cool pin one year and didn't get it right away.. it was gone when i went back... I have seen many things I used to have or my mom/grandma had when i was young! Memories..

  20. Hi Jerri!
Welcome:) Kathy and I were just chatting about Halloween!
    Kari

    ReplyDelete
  21. Jerri I have so many old magazines that they take up drawers ... xmas is even worse!!! I have even started doing what Kari does by just keeping pages...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Snowbear I found 2 old items at a junk sale I went to a few weeks ago, So I got them. Knew just what I was going to to with them.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I have been seeing a lot of black and white now that I am looking for it. Also noticing that the "style" is more in right now in the Halloween items I've seen. LOTS more skulls too. Haven't seen those for awhile. Not really into them myself, but skulls, glitter and bling seem to be big.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I just did a whole other binder with pages torn from a bunch of magazines for Halloween. At first I wanted to keep the magazines in tact, but they were starting to take up too much room and were too heavy!

    Jerri...what did you find???

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh how funny. I bought a small skull at Michaels last week and was thing glitter and bling eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I did see some lovely glittered skulls.. a platter in black with skulls on them.. at Michaels.. i liked it... didn't get it, was a bit costly... waited for a 40% off coupon.. in the mean time, it was sold.. oh well.. I have a thing for devils... i don't know why.. but that is not in the black and white color theme, although like i said, there was a platter.. but just halloween in general.. I hope to come across more black and white things.. i have other places to check yet... yankee candle has a new line this year.. boney something....

    ReplyDelete
  27. At the junk sale I found a cake topper, it was a black cat, And a noise maker. All for .25

    ReplyDelete
  28. Bones I like:)

    I'm into owls this year.

    Always witches and black cats.

    ReplyDelete
  29. FUN stuff, Jerri!! What a deal:)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Michaels have some metallic looking glass(i think) mini ornaments... there are a few that i like... I can't remember.. there were witch items though... I love the lemax stuff... whomever has a complete collection of those is very lucky!

    ReplyDelete
  31. glitter bones would be interesting....

  32. Hi there Kari and everyone I joined the year of color last month and I am enjoying it. Everyone has done so many wonderful things. Kari will you have a swap after the sweet and sinister one?? I would like to participate in at least one...

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am fascinated by some of the noisemakers... I have considered making some for myself.. of course i don't think i would be able to do the metal ones, but i could work on paper ones... i am always looking for unique ideas in the paper field.. usually one can duplicate something of similar value.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Just checked out Yankee Candle. The bony bunch is whimsical. I usually go to the Mall of America once a year to go to the Dept 56 store. Love their Halloween!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hi Marie!!!
Yes, I will be doing a holiday/winter swap of some sort. Any particular type of swap you're interested in?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Welcome Marie... I love the blog too!!

Jerri I have paper mache'd bones for parties... we had a bone hunt.. that was for my then young daughter.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Kari do you not care for whimsical?? I wanted the wedding cake one, but had to settle for the wedding car one in Yankee... got it for my son who was married a couple of weeks ago...their first halloween together.. have to start them off right!

    ReplyDelete
  38. A bone hunt sound interesting. Last year I did a scvanger hunt for my grandsons. They even had to go to a store and sing. It was so funny to go in the same store the next day and hear the owner still laughing about it.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I do like whimsical...very much! Not cutsey, but whimsy. I would call the Dept 56 stuff whimsical and I love that!

What a great gift for your son and his new bride:)

    ReplyDelete
  40. How do you do paper mache bones, Kathy? What do you cover to make the shape?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Jerri what a great idea to make them sing in the store... i bet that was hillarious!

If you have any other party ideas, feel free to share... I hope to have a party this year, not sure it will happen, but i have hopes... I am taking Kari's theme and want to have a Sweet and Sinister theme.. was thinking about having a tree of some kind and have sweet and sinister party favors hanging/under the tree.. not sure what those would be at this point... but it sounds fun...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Kari used newspaper... twisted and rolled into balls on the ends.. i taped those with masking tape... then i applied the paper mache.. they did take awhile to dry... but it was ok... then i painted them..

    ReplyDelete
  43. A holiday swap sounds great...

    ReplyDelete
  44. I had branches in a very tall vase last year and did party favor "cones" hanging on the branches. In this post (several pictures down) you can kind of see it http://artsymama.blogspot.com/2008/10/autumn-gathering-home-party.html

    ReplyDelete
  45. One year we taped tons of plastic bags filled with wadded paper together and paper mache'd those into a waterfall for my summer party... we covered the inside of it with plastic wrap and sprayed it with a waterproof coating... it held up atleast for the party... it was about 8 feet tall... dug a hole in the garden for the pool and recycled the water... it was neat...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Marie..I'll probably announce a holiday swap right after Halloween to give people a month to work on it. Not sure the exact theme yet.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I added a few thing to the hunt that I was sure the adults would not find, Like a shoe horn. But I did tell them to be creative and she came back with a childs shoe and a deer horn, SHOE HORN. She won the prize. A gift card for Mcdonalds.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yes, your cones look awesome.. I made some one year for a witches brew party and hung them from the ceiling around the food table... it looked awesome...

    ReplyDelete
  49. ROFLOL.. Jerri they were indeed creative... it's a delight when people really get into the mood of the party!!

Kari the holiday swap sounds good.. I will have to see when the time gets nearer...

    ReplyDelete
  50. Does anyone get into Halloween food?? I am always looking for neat recipes, garnishing ideas..

    ReplyDelete
  51. That's not an area I've ventured into much.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I was in awe of the food on one of the Addams Family movies... that food designer was great!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hobby Lobby here has had Christmas on the shelfs since June. I need to be inspired to create Christmas in the Summer

    ReplyDelete
  54. I haven't seen those movies in ages. I should check it out. I'm sure I'd be inspired:)

    ReplyDelete
  55. I have a very hard time doing Christmas before Halloween is over. I just can't do it! I didn't even sign up for any Silver Bella swaps because I knew I wouldn't be in the mood. Usually it is Silver Bella that first gets me in the mood for the holiday's.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Our Hobby Lobby has just recently put out their things for halloween and xmas... they have ornaments that really have caught my attention this year.... but it is hard to concentrate on the holidays in summer...

    ReplyDelete
  57. Kari sounds great...
You gals are getting me in the mood for fall and the holidays--fun...

    ReplyDelete
  58. Me too. I enjoy Teresa's creative spirit

  59. The weather has been so perfect here in Minnesota, I've actually been staying in summer mode a lot later this year than normal. The kids don't start school until Sept. 9th, so I feel like we still have several weeks left. The state fair starts next week. That's always a fun trip! Definitely signify's the end of summer.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Our schools started this week.. but my dd doesn't start until sept 1.. they are renovating the high school.. hence the late start. It has been really dry here, but it rained yesterday and today.. so the weeds will grow like crazy now... i neglected my gardent his year with the wedding ...

    ReplyDelete
  61. Kari you have had some beautiful pictures of flowers and nature... I can see why you would still be in summer mode at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Thanks, Kathy. I feel like that's all I've been posting on my blog all summer. I've really enjoyed visiting new places and noticing things that I wouldn't have in the past. I plan to start selling postcards with some select photos on them soon.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Kari thanks for hosting the chat tonight.. it was nice to hear from some of the members.. too bad more didn't show however.. I am sure they just have busy lives... and the time difference may be an issue... thank goodness i live in the Central time zone..

    ReplyDelete
  64. Oh, that's a great idea Kari.. you had beautiful shots!! I didn't get much of a chance to learn how to use my new camera... but finally i am in the digital world..just how to get them onto the computer and use the camera... babysteps.. roflol!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Thanks for chatting! Maybe I should do them more often, different times of the day or week. It was fun:)

    ReplyDelete
  66. I wouldn't do them too often.. they seem to fade away when that happens... but it is nice now and then!!

    ReplyDelete
  67. True. Looking forward to lots of holiday fun on the Year of Color blog over the next several months. The summer has been slow, but now things will rev up in the fall:) Can't wait!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Before we go, i meant to mention the magazine i saw at barnes and noble.. it was a disney's haunted mansion.. on the cover... we saw one out of the plastic... it was a small article inside on it.. most of it was other disney stuff... i was disappointed, but glad i saw one open.. i did not buy it.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I think I'm going to sign off, ladies. I need to get rested for some estate sales tomorrow:)
    Have a great weekend!!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. I'm sure you have fun stuff in store for us Kari... I am looking forward to it.. since MSN closed down their websites, i don't have all of those groups any longer to surf.. although all of the food ones are still there!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Thanks again kari... have fun tomorrow, will look for wonderful finds on the blog!! Goodnight!
