First live chat!!

Hello!! Hope you're having a great weekend:) Welcome to our first live chat for A Year of Color blog. I'm excited to host and hope that several of you stop by. I will be here live from 9 pm CST until about 10 pm. We will "chat" through the comments. If you have something to add, just leave a comment and then I will comment back immediately. It's easy and fun!

First things, first.....we have a winner for our wonderful Scrapologie kit giveaway from Ranjini.

The winner is...Sara Berry. Congrats, Sara!!

I also wanted to let you know that if you signed up for the garland swap, I will be assigning partners early this week. You should receive your partner email from me by Wednesday. I'm excited for this swap and we can brainstorm garland ideas here if you'd like. I hope to post a garland tutorial on A Year of Color soon. I'm also interested in having someone make a "button" for our blog for this swap, so if you're technically inclined and interested, just let me know!

Ok, so has anyone done any of the projet tutorials yet?

What are you up to? What's inspiring you? Getting spring fever yet?

Let's chat.....

  2. I have not done any of the tutorials yet, but for my daughter's bday, i am making my own garland.. using fishing line and some SU paper punches.. a peacock bluish theme with silver.. it's her 16th bday... this garland will be hanging from the ceiling towards the floor... I might make a banner too... this is in a month..

  3. I'm going to move Suz's post over here...she asked, "If black, white or another neutral color is added, is the color scheme no longer monochromatic?"

Monochromatic is shades of a single color. So for example, with blue...you can add black to made darker shades of blue, white to make lighter, etc. It's monochromatic as long as it stays with the same color.

  10. They were neat Kari... it's wonderful you are able to participate in those getaways! Are you making a scrapbook of all of your fun times?

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm sure I will. I want to add lots of bits and pieces from the classes and trades and of course photos from the trip. I took about 150 pictures. It was so much fun!

  12. LOL, it will be a very thick book, even with bits and pieces!! :)

  13. How long does it take you to rest up from your trips? I bet you don't sleep much while gone.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Kari do you make cards too or do you keep more with the crafty side of things?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Actually, not having to worry about the kids waking up in the middle of the night or getting up early with them, I definitely got more sleep than at home. We were all so spent from making art all day, we were in bed by mid-night. Now I just have to adjust to the time switch again today!!

  16. I have done some cards.. rather branched out from scrapbooking... I want to find some inexpensively priced Nestability shapes... I think they look great. I also want to do some experimenting with alcohol inks when i get some... and walnut ink... i think that is to age the look of things..

  17. I make handmade cards with the kids for holiday's and birthday's for family. That's about it. I love to make mini-books as gifts.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I still can't figure out how to change the clock in my car! LOL

  20. YIKES.. I forgot about that one.. didn't drive today.. but in the morning i will.. I think you have to hold down one button and use the up/down for tuning to change ours

  21. Thought I'd say hi Kari! You made me laugh when you said you got more sleep at your event than you do at home. When I was reading about it on your blog a couple of things ago the first thing I actually thought about was wow wouldn't it be great to get a few nights' rest???

  22. Something happened to my halloween post... i commented on getting a fabulous mini book one halloween from a great friend... and display it each year.. keep it on the bookcase the rest of the time. ;)

Sometimes my comments on here say it couldn't be done and i retry.. usually works then, but not for the halloween post...

  23. Hi Kari,Denise here from ArtNest. I am still in awe of everyones special talent with the trades. I haven't got a chance to use any of the tutorials but hope to soon.

  24. LOL Shannon, I too would have felt that way when my kids were younger... my youngest is 16.. I don't have to worry as much about the sleep factor..at least during the school week!

  25. Hi Shannon!
That is funny:) hehe. Doing art for 3 days was a huge treat, but just as much of a highlight was the absolutely amazing food (right Denise?) that Candice, Julie and Cassondra made and not having to drive, clean up or do laundry. The art and the amazing women were icing on the cake!!

  26. Hi Denise!
How was getting back to "reality" for you after the nest? I haven't had time to do a lick of art, but I'm antsy to try all the new tips and techniques we learned.

  28. Yeah my kids are little; 3 and 5. I actually have no idea how the pile of scrapbooks actually happened, but there they are! I must scrap in my sleep or something.

  29. We told them they really need to have an ArtNest cookbook. It was spectacularly yummy! We all took pictures of our food before we ate it! That's what you get with a bunch of bloggers together:)

  34. Kari I am giggling out loud at the thought of a room full of artists, photographers and scrapbookers clicking pictures of their food!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I don't have that issue.. i just get a comment that says my comments cannot be posted... so I try to post again.. sometimes it works and a few times it doesn't.. then i have to redo them in a new post.

  36. I haven't posted any of the food pics on my blog yet. It was pretty funny, everyone "styling" their plate and snapping away!! hehe.

  41. Random curiosities:

How often and for how long each day does everyone spend making art? (for me its all catch-as-catch-can with little boys)

Do you have a proper studio, or are you poor souls like me, fighting the battle of the dining room table?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Totally random, but I've been eyeing this etsy shop lately http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5639087&order=&section_id=&page=1
The prints are gorgeous and I love the "read", "think" and "breathe" signs. So cool!

  43. Good questions, Shannon! Ditto for me on everything:) My dining room table is my "studio" and I literally take whatever minutes...seconds (hehe!) I can get here and there. That was a "problem" I had at ArtNest, I had no art endurance. After a couple hours I felt like I was too much in my heads, over-thinking things. I normally don't have time to get to that point. It was a big hurdle to break through that!

  44. Sorry, I only have one head. Typing too fast!

  45. I like the one that says breath. The Indian Spices print is amazing; and so we are back to food!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Caught me just as i was leaving Shannon.. I would LOVE to have a studio... I am much like you!!... battling for the dining room table.. and struggling to find certain items with lack of proper storage area... and honestly... it prevents me from doing some projects.. both because of the time consumption involved in setting up/putting away each time and the fact that a hunt may insue for lost items.. by the time i'm done with those, i have no time left. In another 5 years or so i will probably be an empty nester and 2 empty bedrooms... i see studio visions!!! ;)

  48. We have a spare bedroom that's an office upstairs, but when the kids were really little I'd always end up waking them up during naps. No way! So we put the bookshelves, server and exercise bike there now, but I still have this dream, you know?

    ReplyDelete
  49. I have to go too; next time I'll chime in sooner! see you later Kari and Kathy!

  50. See ya, Shannon! It was great chatting with you:)
